School Meals

At Eastbrook, we believe that lunchtime is an essential part of the school day. As well as an opportunity to eat a nutritious, healthy meal, lunchtime offers a wonderful opportunity for character virtues to be actively developed and for children’s friendship and respect for one another to grow.

To achieve this vision, the school has introduced ‘Family Dining’.

At lunchtime, children sit at mixed age-group dining tables in ‘family’ groups. During Family Dining, the children are responsible for setting and clearing their places; serving one another from shared dishes; passing the bread basket and water jug around their table; eating with a knife and fork from proper plates rather than moulded trays; using correct table manners; and, engaging in vocabulary-enriching conversation with their peers. What stands out during Family Dining is how well-mannered and polite our pupils are, with the Year 6 and Year 5 children taking real pride in helping and serving food to the younger pupils.

Now everyone at Eastbrook enjoys their lunch together.

For those choosing a hot school meal, these are cooked from fresh ingredients, on site, everyday. We serve a choice of two main meals with unlimited salad and fresh bread. In addition there is the option of a filled jacket potato.

School meals are free for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. For pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 the cost is £2.20.

If your child brings a packed lunch into school, please ensure it adheres to the Eastbrook Healthy Packed Lunch Guidance.
