Exploring Fractions

25 Jun

In Year 3, we have been developing our understanding of fractions through fun and practical maths activities. To help us learn about numerators and denominators, we used pizza slices to explore how a whole can be divided into equal parts. The children enjoyed identifying different fractions, such as halves, quarters and eighths, and discussing how the denominator tells us how many equal parts the whole is split into, while the numerator shows how many parts are being counted. We also matched pictures to the correct fractions, which helped us to recognise fractions in different visual forms and deepen our understanding even further. These hands-on activities made our learning engaging, memorable and enjoyable, while helping the children to build confidence in their maths skills.
