Finding Joy at the Whitechapel Gallery
Year 10 GCSE Photography students visited the Whitechapel Gallery this week to view the significant exhibition of work by the world-renowned artist Joy Gregory, one of the UK’s most innovative artists working with photography today.
Spanning four decades, this landmark exhibition brings together over 250 works encompassing photography, film, installation and textiles, all of which showcase and celebrate Gregory’s inventive, culturally resonant and materially rich practice.
As a bonus surprise, some of our students were treated to an encounter with the artist, who had come into the gallery for a meeting. She was really grateful that we had taken an interest in her artwork and encouraged the students to work hard in their studies!
Learning from this exhibition, our students will be creating an exhibition inspired by Gregory’s work, focusing on self-portraiture and notions of identity and representation – so watch this space.
