EBK does NPG

26 May

On the 23rd May our budding Year 10 GCSE Art & Design students visited the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) in central London, to research and investigate the theme of portraiture, working towards their Component 1.

We began with a visit to the main galleries which have over 4,100 portraits on display, spanning from the Tudor and Elizabethan periods to the present day. We then participated in a workshop where the students explored a wide range of historical and contemporary portraits in the NPG and responded to artworks they connect with. The gallery artist was incredibly impressed with our students’ enthusiasm and confidence - they really did us PROUD!

All students had a fantastic if slightly tiring day. Dalia shared that she: “…liked viewing all sorts of portraits, specifically the paintings of important woman of the time, as they were presented as powerful with lots of different interpretations and meaning”. “I really enjoyed seeing the artwork in different media and my favourite painting was the one of Princess Diana” reported Blessing. Ruby exclaimed: “We got to experience and see art from all different time periods and even had a workshop!”.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Rose who without his support the trip would not happen.
