AND NOW for Something Special: Eastbrook Year 12s Design Again!
Once again, our A Level Art & Design students experienced the world of work through our annual collaboration with the internationally acclaimed AND NOW branding agency.
In response to a real-world brief given to them by the AND NOW designers, Year 12s were set the challenge of creating a brand identity for a client, fully understanding how a Visual Arts A Level teaches professional skills. This year we introduced a competitive edge to the project, with the winning student receiving a certificate of recommendation for their portfolio.
Students first created a theme for their brand, producing mood boards through researching the history, context and aesthetics of The World’s Fair. They then worked through these concepts to produce an overall look and feel through typography, colour pallets and logo ideas. Once refined, these were translated into a final logo and fitted to artefacts such as posters, business cards and even saleable products, such as tote bags!
Finally, our students had the privilege of presenting their work to the AND NOW founders and designers in their London studios. A huge well done goes to Fatema for her wining design, themed around the aesthetics of the 1927 Expressionist film Metropolis – “building the world of tomorrow.” You can see her presentation below, along with another excellent presentation by Tahmid.
Throughout the project, students learn how to Research, Immerse, Create, Develop and Deliver marketable outcomes. The AND NOW designers gave the students valuable feedback and were full of praise for our young designers, saying: “This project has been such a pleasure to work on and we genuinely were so impressed and inspired by the students work. They all did amazingly and should feel truly proud of their hard work - we hope they enjoyed it as much as we did 😊”.
Our Year 12s enormously valued this experience, which has not only provided them with new design and presentation skills, has also inspired them to consider career pathways in the design industry.
Well done Year 12s - we are truly PROUD!
