Year 10 GCSE Photographers visited two locations in order to enhance their knowledge, skills and understanding of photography.

First, the visited the world-renowned Iconic Images Gallery in Picadilly. Students were fascinated to explore the famous images on display from legends of the game such as Norman Parkinson, Terry O’Neill and Eve Arnold.

They gained so much from engaging with all the work on display in the gallery. Specifically having the opportunity to consider, scale, colour, composition and framing in a live context, without the hindrance of the screen (!) is invaluable to their comprehension of good image making.

Students also learnt about routes into photography as a profession from gallery curator Carrie who also gave advice about how to get started, as well as answering questions about the work. They were surprised to say the least that the most expensive image in the gallery was on sale for over £80,000!

After this ‘iconic’ visit, students were taken on a tour of Leake Street Tunnels, the famous location for legal graffiti, were they also ventured into 26 Leake St venue for a photoshoot in a professional setting.

Year 10s really enjoyed the day, with Lexie saying: “It was so much fun exploring the locations that Mr Nathan took us to today. I especially liked visiting the gallery and learning about how to become a professional photographer. I’m going to work on my Instagram portfolio now!”

Well done Year 10s, we are PROUD of your enthusiasm and your commitment to your GCSE Photography.
