Reception Go 'Wild' About Their Learning

05 Nov

It was a very exciting afternoon in the Reception classrooms today as learners ticked off challenge number 17 from their Eastbrook 50 Things poster: “Meet a wild animal.”

Mrs Turner brought in her tortoise from home, and students loved meeting Speedy and observing him as he moved around. We discussed his shell and the job it does, how it feels to touch him, his diet, habitat, and how he will soon be spending his winter months.

We also saw some admirable examples of courage, as some children who had been a bit unsure of this unfamiliar creature at first managed to touch him by the end of the session. Emily said, “I didn’t like how he moved at the beginning, but then I felt him and it felt like a shell from the beach, and I wasn’t scared anymore.”
