Fantastic Firefighters Visit Our Foundation Stage
Reception students were treated to an unforgettable experience today when the local ‘White Watch’ team from Dagenham Fire Brigade visited the school. The visit was an exciting ending to the children’s topic on ‘To the Rescue!’ giving the youngest learners a valuable opportunity to meet real-life heroes and learn about the vital work that they do every day.
The firefighters began their visit by talking to the children about their role in the community. They explained how they respond to emergencies, help keep people safe, and work together as a team. The pupils listened wide-eyed as they heard about the different kinds of incidents firefighters attend, from house fires to rescues and even helping animals in tricky situations. The team emphasised the importance of staying safe, discussing smoke alarms, fire drills, and what to do if there is ever an emergency. The children were particularly fascinated by the firefighters’ uniforms. The team showed the students the different pieces of protective clothing they wear, explaining how each item keeps them safe from heat, smoke, and other dangers.
The learning continued outside, where the firefighters demonstrated some of the equipment used on the job. Students had the chance to get a close look at hoses, tools, and breathing apparatus, all neatly stored in the fire engine. The most thrilling part of the visit came when the children were invited to climb inside the fire engine itself, exploring the seats, controls, and flashing lights. The squeals of excitement reached new heights when the firefighters helped them use the hose, sending powerful streams of water across the driveway - our bike shed has never been so clean!
To thank White Watch for their time, kindness, and service to the community, the Reception students showed the Eastbrook virtue of gratitude and PROUDLY presented the firefighters with a special bag of goodies. The thoughtful gesture included a card and plenty of festive snacks celebrating the team as local heroes.
The visit left a lasting impression on the students, sparking curiosity, admiration, and a stronger understanding of how firefighters keep everyone safe. Thank you Dagenham Fire Station for providing such a memorable and educational experience - one the children and staff are sure to talk about for a long time to come.
