Stitching Inspiration at LCF: Year 10 Students Get a Taste of University Life
A visit to the London College of Fashion (LCF) turned into an inspiring glimpse of the future for a group of Year 10 students this Friday, as they toured the college’s striking new building and explored some of the top-rated facilities that place LCF at the heart of global fashion education.
The tour offered far more than impressive architecture. The Year 10 guests were given a real taste of university life, with the chance to see LCF students working across studios—sketching designs, sewing garments, pattern-cutting and experimenting with textiles. The modern, light-filled building itself was inspiring, designed to encourage creativity, collaboration and innovation.
Adding an unexpected twist to the day, two unplanned fire drills briefly brought everyone outside. What could have been a disruption instead became a memorable highlight, allowing the visiting students to admire bold fashion statements and striking personal styles worn by LCF students. The spontaneous showcase reflected the confidence and creativity that define the college.
The visit ended with a hands-on embroidery workshop, where the Year 10 students quickly discovered that the craft is much harder than it looks. The activity required patience, focus and skill, giving them a new appreciation for the detailed work behind fashion design.
One student shared their thoughts afterwards, saying:
“I did not think about university before now, but this has made me consider new opportunities.”
The London College of Fashion, part of the University of the Arts London (UAL), is internationally recognised for its courses in fashion design, textiles, fashion business, communication and technology. Located at the East Bank campus in Stratford, LCF brings together specialist workshops, digital labs, industry-standard equipment and one of the world’s most extensive fashion libraries. The college is also known for its strong focus on sustainability and innovation, encouraging students to rethink the future of fashion.
By the end of the day, the Year 10 students left with inspiration, new ambitions, and a clearer picture of where creativity and education could take them. Students demonstrated an openness to learn and explore - an absolute credit to the school.
