Raising Awareness, Making a Difference

21 May

At Eastbrook, we believe in empowering our students to become active, thoughtful members of their community. This week, our school has come together to take part in Knife Crime Awareness Week—a vital initiative aimed at educating young people about the dangers and consequences of knife crime, while promoting safety, empathy, and positive choices. Our students have responded with maturity, creativity, and compassion. Our Year 10s have done an outstanding job leading the charge. As part of their personal development curriculum, they researched the impact of knife crime on individuals, families, and communities. They then channelled their learning into action, creating thought-provoking campaign posters designed to raise awareness and spark conversation. We’ve been incredibly impressed by the powerful messages and strong visuals our students have produced. Their work not only demonstrates a deep understanding of the issue but also reflects their commitment to making a positive impact.

Knife Crime Awareness Week has been a powerful reminder of how education extends beyond the classroom. We are incredibly PROUD of our students for engaging with this topic so thoughtfully and for showing real leadership in promoting safety and change. Together, we are building a culture where students feel informed, supported, and inspired to stand up for what’s right.

Below are images of Year 10 students working on their ideas for their Knife Crime Awareness Campaign. The students work at a PR Agency in London in collaboration with the Idris Elba Hope Foundation to create these promotion campaigns.

Upcoming Event

Year 10 Teaching and Learning Conversation (Parents Evening)

This is a perfect time to invite all Year 10 parents and carers to our upcoming Parents’ Evening on Thursday 12th June 2025 from 3:45pm – 6:30pm. This is a valuable opportunity to engage directly with your child’s teachers, gain a clear understanding of their progress, and discuss how best to support them as they prepare for their GCSEs. Research consistently shows that when parents are actively involved in their child’s education, it leads to improved motivation, higher achievement, and greater confidence. Your presence not only demonstrates to your child that their education matters, but also gives you practical tools and insights to help guide them toward future success. We strongly encourage all families to attend and be part of this important partnership in your child’s learning journey.
