Introducing World War II

This week children in Year 6 have been examining primary and secondary artefacts from World War II, to begin the start of their new history topic. In pairs the children had to examine artefacts and predict what they are and what they were used for during the conflict.

The children felt the helmet was very heavy and shared some compassionate statements about what it must have felt like for soldiers wearing it for hours at a time. The land mine and bombs, were reproductions but proved to be popular discussion points. The children were interested in the ration card, however some were shocked to discover that chocolate and sweets were heavily rations during the war. The air raid warden's rattle proved a very popular noisy item!

The children are now eager to learn more about the new topic!

Eastbrook School is an Ofsted rated Good, all-through school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and is part of the Barking Abbey family. Founded in 1933, Eastbrook has a well-established history of serving the local community, with many generations of families attending as students and even joining as staff.
