Amazing Army Museum

17 Nov

On 12th November, Year 6 visited the National Army Museum. Children took part in a poppy workshop they learnt about why we wear poppies, when the first poppy was worn, why there are different coloured poppies and why other countries e.g. India wears the marigold in remembrance. Next, they investigated a figure from the First World War. They tried on their uniform, investigated what the person did for the war effort and why they should be remembered. The children presented a short speech about the figure that they had learnt about to the rest of the class.

After lunch, the children explored the interactive museum. They drove a simulator tank, packed a soldier's kit bag, learnt to drum and march in formation, wore a soldier's kit and wrote messages on poppies and much more. The behaviour of the students in the museum was exemplary, which in turn lent itself to them learning so much about the wars in the past.
