Mayan Architecture
During another visit to Forest School, Year 5 students took part in an exciting challenge to build Mayan pyramids and shelters using only natural materials we found in the forest. Working in teams, they gathered sticks, leaves, bark, and stones to carefully construct our structures. It was a fun yet challenging and creative activity that helped pupils learn more about Mayan architecture and how they might have used the resources around them.
Throughout this activity, students also had to carefully consider the stability and design, just like real engineers! And just like real engineers, there were instances when their structures were unsuccessful. Overall, it was a great hands-on experience that brought history to life in the heart of nature which also replicated real life challenges the Mayans may have encountered.
