Marvellous Mayans
Year Five recently took a vibrant step back in time to explore the fascinating world of the ancient Maya during our special Mayan Day celebration.
From the very start, the day was full of colour, flavour, and energy. Students began their journey by preparing and tasting Mayan-inspired corn tortilla wraps, learning about the traditional ingredients and their cultural significance. It was a delicious way to connect with history! Next, students got creative in a hands-on Headdress Workshop, designing their own bright, imaginative headpieces inspired by traditional Mayan ceremonial wear. Feathers, beads, and bold colours filled our classrooms as students used their creativity to explore the past. The celebration ended on a high note when our students PROUDLY showed off their dancing skills with a group dance routine, where students performed movements inspired by Mayan rituals and storytelling. The joy and enthusiasm were infectious, showcasing how dance can bring history to life.
Mayan Day was a fantastic opportunity to promote creativity, cultural understanding, and respect for different traditions. It was a powerful reminder of how immersive experiences can spark curiosity and make learning meaningful.
