Shield Yourself - The Romans Are Coming
This week, Year 4 have been channelling their inner Roman soldiers! After working hard to design and create their own Roman shields, the children put their learning into action by practising the famous testudo (tortoise) formation. With shields raised and a strong front line, they showed fantastic teamwork and discipline — just like real legionaries!
To bring history even more to life, we recreated the dramatic battle formation from the Battle of Watling Street. Using our semi-circle pergola to represent the forest where the Romans were ambushed, the children took on their roles with enthusiasm and energy.
They should all feel extremely PROUD of their creativity, teamwork, and historical understanding. It was brilliant to see how confidently they used their knowledge and how much pride they took in their shields.
A big well done to all of Year 4 for their effort and creativity — a truly immersive Roman experience!
