Thinking of Freud – Year 13 Museum Visit
As part of our ongoing commitment to developing students’ cultural capital, the Year 13 Psychology cohort visited the Freud Museum in London. Seventeen students attended this enriching educational visit, which offered a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of key psychological theories, by engaging directly with the life and work of Sigmund Freud.
During the visit, students explored Freud’s former home, gaining insight into the environment in which many of his most influential ideas were formed. They were able to view an extensive collection of personal artefacts, including his iconic cigar, handwritten diary entries, garments, and an impressive library of books that reflect the breadth of his intellectual interests. Students also examined original objects from Freud’s study, such as his famous psychoanalytic couch and various antiquities that helped bring their classroom learning to life.
The trip provided valuable context for their A-Level studies, encouraging students to connect theoretical concepts with historical developments in psychology, and inspiring thoughtful discussion throughout the day.
