Students Apply Sociology to Real-World Marketing

13 Mar

Students studying GCSE Sociology at Eastbrook School recently had the opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life through a creative marketing project.

As part of their studies, students explored the concept of marketisation in education – the idea that schools increasingly operate in a competitive environment where they must attract students and families. To understand this concept in a practical way, students were challenged to design their own advertisement promoting Eastbrook School to prospective parents and students.

Working in groups, students applied their knowledge of marketing strategies and audience targeting to create eye-catching and persuasive adverts. Their designs aimed to highlight the many strengths of Eastbrook School while presenting key information in a clear and engaging way.

Students demonstrated impressive creativity, producing a wide range of posters and digital designs that emphasis the school’s welcoming community, strong academic opportunities, and PROUD values. Many groups carefully considered how colours, slogans, images, and layout can influence how a school is perceived by its audience.

This project allowed students not only to deepen their understanding of sociological theory but also to develop valuable skills in communication, creativity, and critical thinking. By connecting theory with real-world applications, students gained a clearer insight into how education systems operate within a competitive landscape.

Well done to all the students for their thoughtful ideas and innovative designs!
