PE Termly Update
Over the past seven weeks, Eastbrook students have taken part in over 40 sporting events. These have included team sports such as football, netball, basketball, and the reintroduction of rugby at Eastbrook.
Our netball teams have enjoyed a successful start to the season, with all year groups experiencing positive results. As we reach the midpoint of the season, the Year 9 netball team remain unbeaten, having won all four of their league matches. The Year 7 team have also started strongly, winning all but one of their fixtures.
Eastbrook has entered every basketball league within Barking and Dagenham as part of our commitment to developing and growing the sport. The Year 7 girls performed particularly well, securing a victory against All Saints. Other teams showed strong performances but narrowly missed out on wins. Coach Odei has been running several well-attended training sessions as we continue to improve our competitiveness in basketball.
In football, our most notable successes so far have come from the Year 7 boys, Year 7 girls, and Year 9 boys, all of whom remain in the Essex Cup as we head into 2026. Each team has progressed to Round 4 and will be aiming to advance further in the competition.
Under the leadership of Mr Goodwin, the PE department has successfully re-established rugby for Years 7 and 8. It has been fantastic to see over 30 boys represent the school in competitive fixtures. The Year 7 team took part in the Essex Schools Rugby Festival, winning one match and losing two, and have since recorded a victory against Sydney Russell in a friendly fixture. Looking ahead to 2026, we have entered the Essex Rugby 7s competitions, giving students an exciting opportunity to compete further.
Alongside team sports, students have also achieved individual success. At the borough cross-country event, the Year 7 boys’ team finished third overall, with Pa Chondi Touray placing third individually. We are also proud to celebrate Sidi Bazzine, who became Borough Champion after winning the Under-14 boys’ race. In indoor athletics, the Year 7 girls’ team finished fifth overall, narrowly missing out on a medal by just five points after competing across a range of running, jumping, and throwing events.
In badminton, our Key Stage 3 and 4 girls’ teams have been crowned Borough Champions and will progress to the next stage of the competition, representing Barking and Dagenham. Each team consists of four players competing in both singles and doubles matches. The next round of the competition will take place in early 2026.
As we conclude 2025, we look forward to an exciting 2026, continuing to provide students with many opportunities to participate in competitive sport and achieve success.
