PROUD Year 10 Students excel in UK Biology and Physics Challenges
Year 10 students recently showcased their scientific curiosity and academic determination by taking part in both the UK Biology Challenge and the UK Physics Challenge—prestigious competitions designed to stretch and inspire the next generation of scientists.
Each challenge required students to complete two timed papers, with a tight limit of just 25 minutes per paper. Remarkably, some students rose to the occasion by finishing each paper in under 10 minutes, demonstrating both speed and confidence in their knowledge. The UK Biology Challenge, organised by the UKBC, tested students on topics that go beyond the classroom, encouraging wider scientific thinking and a passion for the living world. Similarly, the UK Physics Challenge pushed students to apply logic and reasoning to complex physical problems, often inspired by real-world phenomena.
Students embraced the opportunity to deepen their understanding and push their intellectual boundaries. One participant shared: "It challenged my thinking and made me want to learn more about the subjects." Another remarked: "I found it interesting and fun to be a part of."
Teachers and staff expressed how PROUD they were of the students’ dedication, enthusiasm and performance. Taking on two rigorous national competitions in such quick succession is no small feat, and their commitment reflects a bright future in science for these budding minds. Whether they aim to pursue careers in medicine, engineering, research, or beyond, this experience has undoubtedly ignited a deeper interest in science. The school community looks forward to seeing how these talented students continue to grow—and challenge themselves—in the years to come.
