Keys to Success in Mathematics
A few Year 11s shared what has been helping them succeed in mathematics and their advice is clear and practical.
Jessica focuses on exam-style questions, using past papers, videos and regular practice to strengthen her understanding. She also reviews her mistakes, keeps practising until she improves.
Denisa highlighted the importance using structured resources like master booklets. She follows a revision schedule, focuses more on weak areas and keeps her learning engaging by varying her approach.
Mohammed, Lawrence and David emphasised the importance of thinking deeply, not just memorising but understanding why methods work rather than copying steps. This helps students tackle unfamiliar questions with confidence.
They all agreed that it is important to:
- identify and address your weaknesses
- surround yourself with motivated peers
- practice consistently and ask questions
Their final message to their Year 11 peers? It's never too late- stay consistent, stay focused and keep practising.
They also have advice for the younger year groups:
- Build strong foundation and master your basic maths skills.
- Stay curious - ask 'why' and not just 'how'
- Practise regularly and consistently
- Be open and ask for help when needed
Colleagues were also praised their focus and progress, encouraging other students to follow their lead. Thanks to all our staff who have been working with all our students.
