Year 13 Cookery Enrichment Club: Skills for Life - and Plenty of Treats

18 Mar

Every Tuesday before lunch, a group of enthusiastic Year 13 students swap their books for chopping boards as they take part in our ever-popular Cookery Enrichment Club—and what a delicious success it’s been!

With university and independent living just around the corner, these students have been busy perfecting essential food preparation skills that will serve them well beyond school. From mastering the basics to building confidence in the kitchen, each session has been packed with learning, laughter, and, of course, fantastic food.

Over the past few weeks, the group has whipped up an impressive range of dishes. Sweet treats have definitely been a highlight, with students baking cakes and crafting delicious desserts that wouldn’t look out of place on a café menu. But it’s not all about satisfying a sweet tooth—this week, the challenge was a fast-paced, flavour-packed stir-fry, where students practised knife skills, timing, and balancing ingredients to create a perfect dish.

The club isn’t just about cooking; it’s about independence, creativity, and enjoying the process. There’s something special about preparing a meal from scratch, sharing it with others, and taking pride in what you’ve created.

And let’s be honest—everyone needs a treat or two along the way!

We’re incredibly PROUD of the enthusiasm and progress shown by this group. Whether they’re heading off to university, apprenticeships, or the world of work, they’re leaving with skills that will last a lifetime (and hopefully impress a few future housemates too!).

We can’t wait to see what’s next on the menu!
