Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower Challenge - Team Building
We are PROUD of our ever-growing Sixth Form and are pleased to welcome this year’s Year 12s to our school community.
In the first week of the new academic year, all our students took part in the classic Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower Challenge—and it was a huge success!
Armed with nothing but spaghetti, paper and marshmallow, groups of Year 12 and 13 students were tasked with building the tallest free-standing tower they could. What followed was a brilliant display of teamwork, creativity, and resilience.
From the very start, the room was buzzing with energy. Every student was engaged, whether they were sketching out ideas, carefully balancing spaghetti structures, or cheering on their team as towers wobbled and collapsed. The competitive element kept motivation high, and there was plenty of laughter along the way.
Most importantly, the activity gave students the chance to practice vital skills beyond the classroom:
- Teamwork and communication – students collaborated closely and supported each other’s ideas.
- Problem-solving and resilience – when towers collapsed, groups quickly adapted and tried again.
- Creativity and innovation – students experimented with different designs and strategies to achieve success.
The challenge created a positive, lively atmosphere and it was fantastic to see every student fully involved. This hands-on task not only sparked enthusiasm but also reinforced the importance of perseverance and working together to overcome obstacles, as well as getting to know each other.
