Film Through Time
Ahead of their year 13 Mock Examinations, Miss Wood’s A-Level Film Studies class have been conducting some research into significant film movements and trends of the 20th century.
A film movement is a collective wave of cinema, where films share a similar artistic style, thematic content and theoretical ideas. Famous movements which pupils chose to research include; Japanese New Wave, Soviet Montage Film, Surrealist cinema, Hollywood’s Golden Age, Film Noir, and German Expressionism. Each of these movements, have their own distinct styles as a result of the political, social and historical contexts in which they were made.
Students were tasked with choosing 5-6 Film movements from a list provided by Miss Wood, to independently research. From this research, they then created timelines of film. Some examples of the class’ work can be seen in the gallery below!
