Year 6 Meet Media Studies
On last Friday, Year 6 students who will begin their learning at Eastbrook School next year took part in a series of induction lessons. One lesson was led by Miss Wood, who introduced her class to the subject of Media Studies.
During the session, students learnt about the different types of camera angles that a director might use when making a film or television series. Using a quick quiz to consolidate their knowledge, the Year 6 students were able to identify the differences between a close up shot and a long shot and explain why a director for might use these different shot types. They also learnt about different camera angles such as high and low angle shots, and other shot types like aerial shots and mid shots.
Once the class had got to grips with some key film language, they were tasked with creating a storyboard, and drawing out these different types of camera shots. Miss Wood explained what a storyboard was, and what role they play in the filmmaking process. She also showed an example of a storyboard which she had drawn.
By the end of the session, the Year 6 students had created storyboards depicting their morning routines. They were able to use a variety of camera angles and shots in their work to visually represent what they had been up to that morning.
The artistic skills of the students far surpassed Miss Wood’s, and their knowledge of different camera angles and shot types can clearly be seen in their work below. Well done Year 6 – we are PROUD!
