Year One Set Sail on a Pirate Adventure
Year One swapped school uniforms for pirate hats and eye patches this week as they launched their new geography topic: Treasure Island! The classroom was buzzing with excitement as the children arrived dressed as fearsome pirates, ready to embark on a day full of adventure.
To kick off their new learning, the children followed a pirate treasure map around the school grounds, using their geography and problem-solving skills to navigate from clue to clue. Along the way, they completed a series of swashbuckling challenges!
The pirate crew showed fantastic teamwork to build their own pirate ship. They very bravely walked the plank around the playground with great care. Finally, they discovered a hidden treasure chest filled with golden goodies, and their stolen class teddy!
The day wasn’t just about fun — it also served as a brilliant entry point into their new geography topic. Through the treasure hunt, the children began learning about maps, directions, and landforms, setting the scene for the adventures ahead as they explore islands, seas, and faraway places in the coming weeks.
It was a fantastic day of imagination, teamwork, and learning. Well done, Year One pirates — your journey to Treasure Island has begun!
