All About Animals!

05 Nov

Year 1 have been excited to begin their new Science topic, All About Animals! We kicked off our learning by exploring the fascinating world of animal families. The children investigated different animals, looking closely at their similarities and differences, before working together to sort and group them into categories.

We explored how animals can be grouped according to their characteristics, such as whether they have fur, feathers, scales or shells, and discussed the different ways animals move and where they live. The children began to recognise that although animals come in all shapes and sizes, they share common features that help us classify them.

Through hands-on sorting activities, observation and discussion, we developed our scientific vocabulary and practised an important scientific skill: identifying and grouping living things based on their similarities and differences.

We have made a fantastic start to our topic and can't wait to discover even more about the wonderful animal kingdom!
