See it! Taste it! Create it!
This week, we went on an exciting sensory journey to The Gambia without leaving our classroom!
The children explored The Gambia using their senses of sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. The workshop gave us the opportunity to discover more about Gambian culture and everyday life in a fun and memorable way.
We explored colourful Gambian clothing and patterns, listened to traditional music and sounds, and discovered interesting objects from The Gambia. We also had the opportunity to explore different textures, smells and tastes. We also had the opportunity to design a Gambian outfit just like Grace who is the main character within their English text.
The children were encouraged to use descriptive vocabulary to explain what they noticed and how the different experiences made them feel.
We discovered that learning about another country can be much more than reading a book or looking at a map — we can learn through our senses too!
The workshop encouraged curiosity, discussion, and lots of questions. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas and making connections between their own experiences and what they were learning about The Gambia.
It was a wonderful opportunity to see, hear, touch, smell and taste our way around The Gambia!
