Exploring Foods: English Lessons

In Sun Class, the children enjoyed a fantastic sensory learning experience linked to our English text: “Don’t Put Your Finger in the Jelly, Nelly!”.

The children explored a variety of foods featured in and inspired by the story, including spaghetti, cheese, and jam. Using their senses, they carefully looked at, touched, smelled, and tasted the different foods, discussing their observations and sharing their thoughts and preferences with their friends.

This engaging activity supported the development of the children's vocabulary, communication skills, and confidence while helping them make meaningful connections to the story. It was wonderful to see their curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to explore new textures, flavours, and sensory experiences together. The activity also encouraged social interaction, descriptive language, and a positive approach to trying new things.

Eastbrook School is an Ofsted rated Good, all-through school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and is part of the Barking Abbey family. Founded in 1933, Eastbrook has a well-established history of serving the local community, with many generations of families attending as students and even joining as staff. The primary school opened in 2016 and is growing in size year on year. The secondary school transferred into new, state of the art buildings in 2017, benefiting from purpose-built specialist learning environments with industry level resources and outstanding access to green outdoor spaces.
