Lavinia Sabrini, a dance teacher from Israeli Dance Institute, visited our school to share her intricate dancing skills and knowledge of Jewish cultural dancing. This was amongst a number of events students are participating in to celebrate Jewish Week of Activities 2022.

20 students, predominantly from year 7s, had the opportunity to engage in Jewish culture, one that they have never experienced. Prior to learning each dance, the students listened attentively to information and the story behind specific religious or cultural Jewish practices.

Some of the themes/topics included

–          Spiritual

–          Shabbat

–          Orthodox and Reform traditions

–          Modest clothing

–          Kosher laws

–          Ceremonies (Bar and Bat Mitzvahs)

–          Living and working on a Kibbutz

–          Hebrew language

–          Holocaust

–          Water (mayim mayim)

Students were engaged in asking questions that demonstrated their keen interests and were equally answered succinctly, showcasing why Eastbrook is a beacon in cultural explorations.
