Year 5 Maya Day

Year 5 enjoyed a fully immersive day as they learnt about the Ancient Maya Civilisation. The children dressed up as Mayans, explored fashion and fabrics (inclusive of what this meant about an individual’s status in society), food, and drink, as well as exploring the games and sports that were enjoyed by many in Maya Society. Children spent time decorating their very own Mayan headdress, with feathers, which was often worn by the Kings and nobles in society. Also, year 5 had the opportunity to sample a meal together. This consisted of scrambled egg, plantain, white cheese, tortillas (made from maize), black beans and avocado. Finally, pupils were able to experience playing a Mayan ball game whereby they could only use their hips, knees, or elbows to hit the ball. Year 5 had an amazing day!
