Trewern Day Three

On day three, pupils were beginning to get into the routine of helping to serve and clear away breakfast each morning and keep their rooms tidy.

Mrs. Fernandes’s group went to the Monmouthshire canal today for some canoeing. Pupils were quick to learn how to control the canoes and steer them in the correct direction. They managed to navigate around the barges on the canal and even raced each other! There was lots of fun splashing around at the end of the session when pupils used a rope swing to cross a huge muddy puddle! Almost everyone who tried to cross it ended up wet!

Mrs. Noel-Makula’s group had enormous fun in the valley, floating down the gorge… Pupils were incredibly brave and slid down moss covered rocks, crawled under a waterfall and let the current float them down stream. There were lots of laughs and huge grins on everyone’s faces during the afternoon!

Miss. Mohmed’s group went caving with the official local expert ‘Caving Ray!’ The group were fearless and everyone completed the ‘Letterbox’ – a tight rectangular shaped gap between rocks. Pupils also slid down a long tunnel, leading them to a splash pool! They learnt about the local rocks (red sandstone and limestone) and how the river levels inside the cave and dramatically change.

That evening pupils took part in an orienteering challenge, they had to find point on a map of Trewern and check in with the instructor. The team that found the most points in the quickest time were the winners!  There was lots of racing around and two teams were very close in finding five points each!
