Time Travelling in Year Three

Year three pupils became time travellers this afternoon and went back 10, 000 years to a Stone Age forest. They learn how to forage in the outdoors for tasty treats such as nettles to make tea or soup with, berries to paint or eat, they learn how to shake seeds out of pine cones to eat and finally they learnt how Stone Age dwellers crushed acorns to make their own flour. Later on, the children learnt how to whittle down sticks to make javelins or arrows for hunting animals as cave dwellers would have.

The highlight of the afternoon was when the children all had a go at making sparks with a flint and steel! Mrs. Fernandes then toasted some marshmallows over the fire to make smores, not a Stone Age treat but more delicious than some of the Stone Age foods.
