Planting for the Future

Pupils in year three have demonstrated how green their fingers really are this week when they planted trees at Eastbrookend park. Pupils worked alongside volunteers from Thames Chase to plant 150 trees!

Pupils learnt that we need trees to provide homes and habitats for animals, to absorb carbon dioxide and generate oxygen. They understood that we need to plant trees for future generations to enjoy.

The children worked very hard to dig holes, place the sapling in said hole, insert a bamboo cane for support, ensure that the roots were covered with soil and a mulch skirt. Lastly, they placed a protective plastic casing around the tree so that they have the best chance to grow.

Altogether during this week, Eastbrook primary and secondary pupils have planted 1400 trees! That is a fantastic achievement and we intend to revisit the site in the summer to check on the progress of our future forest.
