Imperial War Museum

Today our Year 6 pupils visited the Imperial War Museum, in central London. The pupils were captivated by the amazing artefacts they saw and the real life situations they experienced.

Upon entering the museum pupils gasped at the sight of tanks, a spitfire aeroplane and a bomb in the exhibition hall. Pupils were astounded to learn that all of the above were real life objects, used in wars of the past.

They were able to walk inside a WWI trench, while planes flew overhead and shadows of soldiers marched past. They also had the chance to shelter in an Anderson shelter and under a table, in a 1930s house during an air raid. Some pupils were successful in sending coded messages using an Enigma machine and others listened to wartime broadcasts by Winston Churchill.

All too soon it was time to head back to school, the visit will inspire pupil’s History work on World War II. The behaviour of the pupils during the visit was outstanding and a credit to themselves, their parents and the school.
