Children in Year 1 have today been introduced to using the formal written method for addition. Using Diennes to support them, the children were able to begin to add together 2-digit numbers with single digit numbers. They practiced setting the calculation out vertically to find the total. The tricky bit was remembering to add the ones together first, but we’ll show perseverance and try again tomorrow.
