Year 10’s Sociology project on Rastafarianism

Year 10 Sociology has started their project on Rastafarianism. This is, in part, owing to Black Excellence’s impact on the Sociology curriculum. The curriculum has been adopted to facilitate a positive change around the narrative of black people and apply context to their sociological knowledge.

Will our students be engrossed into the Rastafarians’ way of life, the struggles encountered and the resounding ‘Redemption Songs’ they continue to chant? All these, and more, will be known on 17th December, when they make their presentations!

TASK: Carry out a research, linked to key terms you have learnt in Sociology, on the Rastafarians’ way of life in Britain. Some of the questions that can guide your research are

–          What are their cultural practices?

–          Explain the cultural relativity that people in Britain may experience when examining

Rastafarianism

–          Explain how Rastafarians have contributed to a cultural diversity in Britain

–          Discrimination they faced and how they dealt with it

–          Explain the role that Rastafarians have played in shaping life in Britain

–          To what extent have life improved or changed for Rastafarians in the UK?

How to Present:   Power point and a Leaflet

The top five awardees will have their presentations shown in assemblies and on displayed at the EXPO in June 2022. Watch this space!
