Motion: “This house believes Eastbrook debaters are the best!”

For many years now, Eastbrook school has been working with Debate Mate, a programme in which university undergraduates support our students to become independent, thoughtful learners who communicate well with each other and the world around them.

So we were delighted to not only participate in the Debate Mate Urban League competition but also to host it!

Students from six schools joined Eastbrook’s orators to take part in two rounds of debates.

The first was a prepared round, with students employing their best rhetorical and persuasive skills to debate the motion: “This house believes millionaires should not exist.”

The second round was an unprepared motion, with our quick thinking students developing arguments in response to the motion: “This house believes that the rise of social media as a news source does more harm than good.”

Although it’s the taking part that counts, we are PROUD to reveal that Eastbrook students won six out of eight of their debates.

We are very grateful to Ms Lotter for organising the event!
