KS3 Science Club – Wednesdays Week B

Science Club on Wednesdays week B, has proven particularly popular this year with more than 70 pupils signing up. Pupils from Years 7 and 8 had fun making King Kong’s Hands by mixing baking soda and vinegar together in disposable latex gloves. The vinegar and baking soda react to form carbon dioxide gas, CO2. This gas is then trapped inside of the glove. The gas molecules hit the sides of the glove to cause pressure to blow it up. The more gas that is formed results in more molecules and causes an ever increasing pressure.

Elephant’s toothpaste is a foamy substance caused by the rapid decomposition of hydrogen peroxide using potassium iodide or yeast and warm water as a catalyst.

Science Club is currently at full capacity but Years 7 and 8 can join our waiting list!
