Diwali ki Shubhkamnayein

May your Diwali be free from darkness and abundant with light.

Many people in the Eastbrook community celebrate Diwali, a festival of light, remembering the spiritual victory of light over darkness.  Leading up to Diwali, many people around the world have been preparing by decorating their homes with ‘Dyas’ and ‘Rangoli’.  Diwali is celebrated in the UK by lighting fireworks, family feasts, eating lots of ‘mithai’ and sharing gifts.

Diwali is mostly celebrated in Hindu, Sikh and Jain cultures.

Ms Manoranjan, exams officer, has sent some pictures showing how she and her family celebrated Diwali.  They spent time in the temple in the morning to offer special prayers, adorned in the finest clothes.  The family came home and prepared scrumptious vegetarian meals and visited close family to share all the lovely food.  The celebration didn’t just end there, the next day stepped up the festivities with a party at a friend’s house, and the children competed with who made the best Rangoli pattern, as seen in the pictures, a symbol of happiness and joy.
