Holy Books and Religious Practices of Judaism

Year 10 – Religious Studies of Judaism – Holy Books and Practices – Term 5

Students have been using their printed work booklets throughout lockdown to further their knowledge and understanding of Judaism. Many of our students have formed well developed research and revision skills by reading, highlighting key ideas, notes taking and developing revision materials from their work.

This term, students have finished their study on the teachings and beliefs of Judaism and have begun looking at the holy books and practices of Judaism. Through the understanding of the 24 books of the Tenakh and the numerous oral laws of Judaism, our students have developed their understanding of Jewish laws and practices.

The topics covered so far are: The Messiah and Afterlife, The Torah and Talmud, Jewish Dietary Laws – Kosher and Treifah, the Synagogue – Orthodox and Reform, Public and Private worship, and the prayers – Shema, Amidah, Kaddish and Aleinu

Students have been producing fantastic analytical and discussion papers on each of the topics above.
