Debate Mate: The Final Session!

On Thursday 19th May, Eastbrook hosted their final Debate Mate session. Here, special guests from Finance Advisory company Deloitte, listened to students give five minute pitches about an innovative idea they had. Our students’ innovations were centered around improving the local community, combating Climate Change and using technology for good.

Six groups presented on behalf of Eastbrook, with students from years 7-9 sharing their ideas. Ideas ranged from building a self sustaining gaming Arcade which would run on Kinetic energy produced by Exercise bikes to an Eco Friendly Fun Fair.

Pupils were assessed on both their ideas and how confidently and clearly they expressed them to the Judges. These fantastic pitches were the perfect way to round up the Debating season, with students using all of the skills in their pitches that they have learnt at Debate Mate this year. Our presentations were assessed by Deloitte staff and will be entered in to a national competition. The winners of this competition will receive funding in order to bring their idea to life!

We are incredibly proud of all of the students who took part in this final Debate Mate session. Not only did they receive some valuable careers advice, but they also were able to showcase their debating skills in a professional environment. We look forward to seeing our Debate Maters when the club re-launches in September and would like to wish them all a fantastic Summer Term!
