Space Week – BBC Live Lesson

This week Year 6 (along with the rest of the school) are celebrating Space Week!

Due to careful consideration and planning, Year 6 were able to incorporate Space week in the UK with their Topic and Science learning this half term. As a special celebration, the BBC provided Live Lesson material. In true CBBC style, the children were entertained and picked up a lot of information all at the same time. They discovered how the moon was formed, starting around 4 billion years ago, touched upon the different phases of the moon as it seems to change its size and shape in the sky and found out what a comet is made of. There was even an interview segment with Professor Brian Cox as part of the lesson!

To make the most of the learning opportunity, after the children had listened to the information and taken part in a class quiz, they applied their new knowledge to creating their very own ‘maps’ of the solar system.

What will our explorers of the final frontier discover next? Watch this space!
