Despite not being able to celebrate together as a whole class in school, Year 1 were not going to let World Book Day 2021 slip by unnoticed. They actively threw themselves into demonstrating their love of reading and thoroughly enjoyed rising to Mr Peake’s challenge of representing a Sci-Fi character to tie in with our Science Week celebrations.

Throughout the day, the children confidently spoke about their book choices and favourite characters, made their own celebratory World Book Day bookmarks ready to use for when they start to read longer chapter books, made a reading den at home or found an unusual place to read in school and enjoyed hearing Mrs Turner’s chosen Sci-Fi text ‘Toys in space’. Everybody learnt a very valuable lesson- do not leave your toys unattended in the garden overnight because they just might not be there when you wake up in the morning!
