When life depends on nothing but clockwork!

This week year 5 have been reading the book ‘Clockwork’ and they have been coming up with their own freeze frames based on the moment where Karl is savagely attacked and killed by Sir Ironsoul (the clockwork figure).

Here is a summary presented by two of our year 5 pupils:

Before this lesson, pupils wrote their own letters to the one and only Princess Mariposa from her beloved husband Prince Otto. Princess Mariposa desperately desired to have a child, with her husband, however they continued to face a multitude of challenges. After many years, they eventually went on to have a baby boy who soon became unwell and was at the brink of death. As a result of this, Prince Otto took the child to a professional physician who resurrected the child, but there was a twist. The child had been recreated using clockwork. Eventually, it needed something to replace its clockwork and sadly, this resulted in his father, Prince Otto, sacrificing his life for his most loved son.

Now, this is where the two stories meet. Many years later, Prince Florian became unwell again and Princess Mariposa insisted that the grooms (carers) take Prince Florian outside for fresh air in order to improve his health. Little did she know that those that were entrusted with her son’s life would soon abandon him and leave him to die. Fortunately, for young Prince Florian, he stumbled upon the old White Horse Tavern where he would soon meet the young lady who would save him.

However, whilst things improved for Prince Florian, matters began to worsen for some of the other characters. Karl, the clockmaker’s apprentice, had become consumed by greed and fame and so he made plans to steal the clockwork figures and to destroy anyone that stood in his way- this included little Prince Florian. Karl eventually met his fate as Sir Ironsoul, the clockwork figure, decapitated him in the most bizarre circumstances.
