The Topic is SPACE!

Coming back after the Easter holidays, the children in Reception dove into their new Topic of SPACE! The started their morning by creating marble art planets, dipping the marbles in metallic paint and then rolling them around to create a really cool pattern effect. Some of the children even named their planets and made up stories of what creatures would live there.

Next they started thinking about what did they need to get to Space…. a rocket, working hard and persevering the children build a model rocket using junk modeling and recycled items. Adding windows, points and flames, they got so excited role playing with their rockets flying around the classroom. You could see the improvement in their fine motor skills as their were able to work more independently on this junk project.

To the hall where they went on a NowPressPlay mission to Mars, the children enjoyed using their imaginations and acting out the story. They were able to complete their mission saving their dog called Mars.

The children spend the afternoon learning facts about the solar system and what it is like on the different planets. They then got crafty colouring in each planet in the correct colour, it was incredible to hear them talk about different facts – ‘we live on planet Earth’, ‘the sun is a star’ and ‘ Mercury is the hottest planet’! Can you believe this is only the start of their exciting Topic!
