Safer Internet Day 2024

Safer Internet Day

This week, as a school, we collectively took time to celebrate Safer Internet Day. With the theme this year including, managing influence, and navigating change online.

During our whole school assembly, we explored the different ways that technology has changed throughout time. The children had an opportunity to discuss their favourite things to do online. Pupils also had the opportunity to express how they felt when things in their online world changed. This ranged from: sad, curious, excited, nervous, worried, and scared. Pupils were able to confidently share what strategies they can, and have used, to resolve their problems. Many mentioned speaking with a trusted adult.

Some of the activities included:

·       Looking at how technology has advanced over the years in devices such as phones and watches.

·       Explaining and describing how much we rely on our phones to speak to each other but also for other things such as cameras, calculators, screens and many more features.

·       Pupils predicted what could happen to devices in the future such as: hologram phone calls or projected images etc.

·       Reviewing a range of app icons (e.g. push notifications, streaks, loot boxes etc) they described what the icon was persuading them to do and how we should be wary of some of the icons.

·       AI Analysis and exploring what is AI and how it helps it could help or hinder each of us in the future. Pupils discussed how they each use AI currently to find out information or to operate devices in and around the home.

Pupils thoroughly enjoyed each of their sessions and will continue to have the opportunity to develop their learning over the coming weeks.
