Roman Wealth

Year 4  have been very busy building their Roman wealth. We have had a fantastic time getting our hands into history.

Our Roman coins were made of a mixture of salt, flour and water.

The children needed to knead the mixture to create a stiff dough, which they then flattened with their hands to make a circular shape to resemble that of a coin. Once the children had their coin shape they very skilfully made imprints into the dough. They the used their knowledge of Roman numerals to give a value to the coin and also a signature imprint similar to that of a Roman ruler. The coins were then baked and once cooled were painted in a very distinctive colour.

Year 4 have enjoyed this hands-on learning experience and are very excited to use their coins to extend their wealth.
