Rosie’s Walk

The children in reception have been looking into measuring distance and how we can use different ways to compare the distance. The started with the story of Rosie’s walk, where the hen travelled across the farm, coming across different obstacles as the fox chases her.

With their maps of farm they had to find a route using the standard measure of cubes. In their groups they displayed fantastic team work to solve the challenge. Their first tasks they had to stick to the paths and count the amount of cubes to measure the distance. Then they went off road and had to find a shorter route, the children were able to compare the distances and even state how many cubes shorter the route was.

They really showed off their reasoning and thinking skills, with the children being able to talk and discuss the thoughts behind their choice of routes and measurements.
