Measuring The Distance…..

The children in Reception put their measuring skills to use today in Maths. After watching the classic story of Rosie’s walk, the children then became Rosie the chicken and had to map out their journeys across the farm. In groups they then had to measure the distance they had travelled using non-standard units of measurement, today they used cubes.

With perseverance and team work they were able to measure how many cubes Rosie had travelled to get from the starting point to the pond and so on. They were even able to compare the two different journeys, saying which one was a longer distance in cubes and which one was a shorter distance.

When working their teams they were able to work together and communicate through the problem solving. It was great to see their busy minds at work while engaged with this task.
