London’s Burning

Whilst most of Years 1 & 2 were busy at a sporting event, the remaining students enjoyed having a mini topic afternoon learning all about 1666’s Great Fire of London. Children were transported back in time by ‘Magic Grandad’ who introduced them to the very significant Samuel Pepys. Through this interactive experience pupils got a really good understanding of how and why the fire spread so quickly and just how important Samuel Pepys’ diary would be in the future.

Children used this knowledge to help them create wonderful, bright pieces of artwork which really depicted how the ferocious flames would have lit up the London skyline over those four days and nights. Finally, the children enjoyed burying their very valuable cheese and wine, just like the infamous Mr Pepys did. We hope that the foxes don’t find them!
